Small. Feeble. Aloehexans.

In a world where animals are extinct, humanity has split into two species to survive: the Hannibians—a fierce yet sophisticated race of cannibals, combining the primal instincts of beasts with the intelligence of humans—and the Aloehexans, a peaceful, plant-eating people who vastly outnumber the Hannibians.

Samantha Krus, the seventeen-year-old daughter of the Lord of the Hunt, and Luke Odenigwe, son of one of the Masters of the Hunt, are about to take part in the Great Hunt, a bloody rite of passage held every five years in Aloehexa. But when Sam, in a moment of defiance, breaks the Hannibians' most sacred law—Secila no Cranedia, meaning no meat goes to waste—Luke, by covering for her, becomes an unwilling accomplice. If caught, both their lives will be sacrificed.

As they prepare for the hunt, Sam and Luke uncover a deadly plot to annihilate the Aloehexans with a chemical weapon, leaving millions dead and their bodies rendered useless. With the clock ticking and their loyalty to each other tested, they must stop the attack before it's too late. Failure means not only their deaths, but the downfall of Hannibus itself.
